Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 2026

Drift is a calm focus timer designed to help you structure deep work sessions. Respecting your privacy is a core part of the product philosophy. Drift collects only the minimum information necessary to function and improve the experience.

Information We Collect

Drift may collect limited, anonymous usage information related to how the extension is used. This helps improve reliability, usability, and future features.

Examples of usage information include:

  • Focus session starts and completions
  • Break sessions
  • Feature usage (such as enabling the website blocker or adjusting settings)
  • Extension version and basic technical diagnostics

This information does not include:

  • Personally identifiable information (such as name or email)
  • Browsing history or visited websites
  • Page content, text input, or keystrokes
  • Authentication or payment information
  • Personal communications

Usage information is collected in aggregate form and is not used to personally identify users.

Local Storage

Drift stores timer state, preferences, and related settings locally using Chrome’s storage API. This data remains on your device and is not shared externally.

How We Use Information

Anonymous usage data is used solely to:

  • Improve performance and stability
  • Understand which features are useful
  • Fix bugs and optimize reliability
  • Guide future product improvements

Drift does not sell user data and does not use data for advertising or profiling purposes.

Third-Party Services

Drift may use a privacy-focused analytics service to process anonymous usage information. These services receive only the minimal technical data required to provide analytics functionality.

No browsing history, page content, personal communications, or personally identifiable information is transmitted to third parties.

Data Retention

Anonymous usage data is retained only for as long as necessary to analyze trends and improve the product. Local timer data stored on your device remains until you remove the extension or clear browser storage.

User Controls

If analytics controls are available in settings, users may disable anonymous usage tracking at any time. When disabled, no usage data will be transmitted.

Permissions

Drift requests only the permissions required for its core functionality:

  • Storage – to save timer state and preferences locally
  • Tabs – to display or remove the floating timer on the active tab

Drift does not read website content or monitor browsing behavior.

Changes to This Policy

If Drift’s features change in a way that affects privacy, this policy will be updated to reflect those changes.
